And yet the daily reality of claims - the mechanism that pays for care actually delivered - still runs on spreadsheets, PDFs and phone calls. Providers wait weeks for reimbursement. HMOs cannot see leakage until year-end. Members walk into clinics unsure whether their card will even work.
Vetra is the operating system that replaces that stack. One system of record. Five role-specific portals over the same data. A benefit engine that adjudicates every claim line against your published tariff. An AI risk model that scores every claim on submission. A settlement engine that batches, approves and reconciles provider payments end-to-end.
We built Vetra alongside the people who use it every day - Nigerian claims adjudicators, hospital finance teams, corporate HR leads, and members. Every workflow on the platform maps to a real screen a Nigerian operator would recognise - the Member ID schema, the WhatsApp-first provider comms, the kobo-denominated amounts, the state-by-state provider directory.

- 2024
Vetra founded in Lagos
Started after multiple stints inside Nigerian HMO ops - watching adjudicators reconcile claims on paper and spreadsheets while chasing providers on WhatsApp for missing documents. The bet: a single system of record could compress a two-week claims cycle to two days.
- 2025
First HMO tenants live on the platform
Onboarded the first pilot HMOs. Shipped the claims engine, the tariff engine, and the provider portal. Discovered that ghost-patient fraud - emergency PAs filed on cards the member did not use - was so common that we built a real-time enrollee alert as a platform primitive.
- 2026
The marketplace + consumer wallet
Launched the Vetra marketplace - a public directory of NHIA-accredited HMOs where members can compare, quote, and choose. Started building the consumer health-wallet mobile app so members can carry their coverage and claim history in their pocket.

Our engineering, product and operations teams are based in Lagos, with deep experience across Nigerian HMOs, healthcare providers and payments infrastructure. We hire people who have carried the pager for a Nigerian claims desk - because software that pretends the market is anywhere else does not survive first contact with a provider on WhatsApp at 22:00 on a Sunday.
We are a small, tightly-scoped team. We publish quarterly what shipped and what got shelved. And we work in the open with our pilot HMOs - product decisions are debated on shared Notion docs, not pitched from a stage.
